Highlights of the Guided Snorkel Tour:

Historical Features:

The Jean-Michel Cousteau Snorkel Trail is an artificial reef system located off Fort Lauderdale Beach, dedicated by Jean-Michel Cousteau in May 2002. This snorkel trail was designed to replicate elements of a shipwreck environment, providing an educational and recreational experience for snorkelers. It features man-made structures like concrete cannons, a large anchor, and a ballast pile—elements typical of historical shipwrecks in the region. These were intentionally placed to mimic the kind of underwater scenes explorers like Jacques Cousteau documented in their work. The trail, which began development in 1998 and took four years to complete, is part of a broader effort to create an accessible underwater attraction while fostering marine life growth. It sits in shallow waters (8 to 16 feet deep) and is noted for its biodiversity, hosting species like sea turtles, parrotfish, barracuda, and more.
This project ties into Jean-Michel Cousteau’s legacy of ocean conservation and education, much like his father’s work. Jacques Cousteau famously explored real shipwrecks

Trail Details & Disclosure:

Please note the Trails are an ARTIFICAL REPLICATION with Elements of a Shipwreck.  There is NOT an actual Shipwreck and no actual shipwrecks are seen on this Tour.  The popularity of these snorkel trails is due to the close proximaty to the shore making it great for Scuba Certifications and Snorkel Adventures that has been promoted as the 2nd Most Visited Reef in the World behind the Great Barrier Reef.  We are privileged to offer this without the need of a boat and at such a great value.
